Photos of Amy Wadge and Cathryn Stone live at White Hart

At first sight, Amy Wadge (pronounced Woj) might have seemed an odd choice for this first 'official' event in the Acoustic Sussex programme. After all, this is a lady who plays in a four-piece rock band and has toured with the likes of Jeff Beck. But Amy, who is twice winner of Best Female Solo Artist in the 'Welsh Brits', loves to get back to her acoustic roots and she proved an ideal choice at the intimate White Hart venue.

After an excellent support set by Brighton-based Cathryn Stone, Amy and her bassist, Matt Beadle, took the stage and launched immediately into "Six Of One". It was clear from the very start that we were in the presence of a polished performer on top of her game. The set included familiar songs from Amy's stylish debut album "Woj" and some impressive numbers from her next album, to be released later this year. The songs "Nothing", "Breathe" and "Shattered" were brilliant showcases for Amy's gorgeous vocal delivery. The upbeat "Valley Boy" had the country feel of Sheryl Crow. A well-deserved encore followed, with the audience singing along like a Welsh choir.

Amy Wadge certainly found a new audience tonight, with a queue forming to buy her CD at the end of the evening! This was a highly enjoyable gig and a great start the Acoustic Sussex programme.
